On June 8, 1867 Frank Lloyd Wright was born in Richland Center, Wi. He attended the University of Wisconsin without graduating.   He moved to Chicago in 1887, working in the architectural office of Joseph Silsbee and Beers Clay and Dutton, before joining Adler & Sullivan.  He married Catherine Lee Tobin in 1889.  In 1893 after a split with Sullivan, Wright opened his own practice.

Wright's early work was mainly limited to residential commissions designed in the Prairie School vernacular. In 1909 he abandoned his home and wife and travelled to Europe with Mamah Cheney, In 1911 Wright began Taliesin, a new home for himself and Ms. Cheney.  In 1914 Wright's gardener murdered, Ms Cheney, her two children and four others and then burned the house. After a series of affairs, Wright married Olgivanna  Hinzenburg.
